Launch of the State of Instant and Inclusive Payment Systems in Africa 2022
Time: Tuesday 25th October, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Venue: Kigali Convention Centre - Room AD11
Description
Instant payment systems have spread across the continent, but how inclusive are they? To what extent do they enable or prevent payment service providers from reaching lower-income people? There is no actual consolidated stock-take of the current state and trends in instant and inclusive payment systems in Africa.
AfricaNenda partnered with the World Bank and UNECA to fill this gap in producing the first annual thought-piece on the role of instant and inclusive payment systems (IIPS) in achieving financial inclusion in Africa. The report features several emerging trends at the scheme, market and demand levels likely to shape the African IIPS ecosystem over the coming years.
Join the launch report and hear about the key findings, barriers, opportunities and recommendations for IIPS in the continent.

Description
Commercial 5G services are now available in every region of the world, making it a truly global technology. Today, nearly 200 operators in over 80 markets around the world have launched commercial 5G services. In Africa, the journey to 5G has begun but it is still early days for network deployment and commercialisation; currently, commercial 5G networks are available in less than five countries in the region. However, this will change in the coming years as governments and operators in more than 40 countries across Africa anticipate commercial 5G services in their markets by 2025.
The GSMA, in collaboration with ITU Africa, is developing a study to understand the role that 5G will play in Africa’s connectivity landscape, and the opportunities that 5G provides for key stakeholders in Africa (governments and regulators, network operators, device and equipment vendors, application developers, consumers and enterprises and so on). The 5G summit at MWC Africa will bring together leaders from these stakeholder groups to deliberate the findings of the study, share their visions for the 5G era, and make bold commitments towards the realisation of the 5G potential in Africa.
We would like to thank our 5G Summit Supporting Sponsors: Arm, Rohde & Schwarz, Syniverse and Qualcomm.
