Session Description
The mobile sector is a vital driver of economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa, contributing over 8% of GDP. Yet it faces disproportionately high taxation – averaging 30% of revenues – compared to sectors like mining. This session explores how sector-specific taxes on consumers and operators are worsening affordability, deepening usage and coverage gaps, and stifling investment in network expansion. As policymakers and industry leaders seek a win-win approach, the focus is on fiscal policy reforms that can unlock digital access, stimulate inclusive growth, and—01` ensure the mobile sector continues to support national development goals.
