Daud Elvin Suleman is a seasoned leader in technology and regulation, currently serving as the Director General of the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA). With more than 18 years of professional experience spanning fintech, banking, ICT and regulatory environments, he has been instrumental in advancing access to affordable, secure, and quality communications services across Malawi.
Prior to his tenure at MACRA, Mr. Suleman held senior roles in several major institutions, including as Chief Technology Officer at MobiPay Malawi; Head of IT Service Delivery at NICO Technologies; and Chief Information Officer at NBS Bank.
In his role as MACRA Director General, Mr. Suleman has championed several key initiatives:
Advocating for reduced data tariffs to make broadband and mobile internet more reachable for underserved and rural populations.
Overseeing the deployment of a Revenue Assurance System to strengthen transparency, reduce fraud, and ensure regulatory compliance among telecom operators.
Actively promoting digital rights and cybersecurity awareness, especially among young people and in rural areas; emphasizing that regulatory frameworks and laws must evolve alongside technology.
Contributing regionally and globally: Mr. Suleman was appointed to the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Digital Innovation Board, positioning him among the continent’s and world’s policy voices on digital development and innovation.
