Anthony Mveyange is a visionary and award-winning executive leader, development economist, and board director with over 17 years of global experience driving institutional growth, governance, and high-impact programs across Africa, Europe, and the U.S. He has demonstrated expertise in organizational leadership, fundraising, strategic partnerships, policy influence, and public engagement. Currently, he serves as the Director of Programs at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with regional offices in Dakar, Senegal. Anthony is also a co-founder of the Network for Impact Evaluation Researchers in Africa (NIERA), based in Kenya, and he is recognized for scaling non-profit and development organizations, mobilizing over $40 million in funding, and forging strategic alliances with governments, multilateral institutions, and global foundations. He is a trusted advisor to governments, development agencies, and private sector partners, frequently contributing to BBC, RFI, Deutsche Welle, Voice of America, CGTN, and local broadcasting networks in Africa on African economic and public policy issues. Anthony has global board-level experience with institutions in finance, research, health, and governance, providing strategic oversight and championing accountability, innovation, and long-term sustainability for organizations in the United States, Canada, Kenya, and Tanzania.
Anthony is a fellow of the East Africa Social Science Translation Collaborative (EASST) and a member of the Economic Society of Tanzania (EST), the American Economic Association (AEA), the INCLUDE Knowledge Platform, the European Economic Association (EEA), Poverty Reduction, Equity, and Growth (PEGNet), and the African Program on Rethinking Development Economics (APORDE). He also contributes to Africa in Focus at the Africa Growth Initiative of the Brookings Institution. In 2019, Trademark Africa awarded him the CEO Merit Award for his contributions to knowledge, impact, and innovation. In 2020, he was selected as one of 12 global experts by the World Manufacturing Forum (WMF) and made significant contributions to a white paper on the future of global value chains.
Anthony has received several scholarships from prestigious institutions in the United States, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and South Africa. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics, two master's degrees in Economics, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Poverty Analysis, and a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance.
