Ralph Mupita is Group President and CEO of MTN Group, Africa’s leading digital operator with a presence in 16 markets and over 300 million customers. Ralph is a seasoned business leader with a career spanning engineering, financial services and telecommunications across emerging markets. He has served as Group President and Chief Executive Officer of MTN Group since September 2020, having previously been Group Chief Financial Officer from April 2017.



Prior to this, he was Chief Executive Officer of Old Mutual Emerging Markets, overseeing operations across 19 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Under his leadership, the business served 19 million customers and managed approximately R1 trillion of assets.



At MTN, Ralph has driven initiatives that strengthened the Group’s capital position, advanced portfolio optimisation and expanded local participation through public listings in Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda. He also serves on several Boards within the MTN ecosystem, including MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria and MTN Group Fintech.



Ralph plays an active role in industry and business leadership in Africa and internationally. He is Deputy Chair of the GSMA and a Commissioner on the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development. In 2025, he was appointed to the board of Dangote Fertiliser.


During 2025, he served on the B20 Advisory Board, supporting the private sector’s contribution to G20 policy discussions.


Ralph holds degrees in engineering and business, including a BSc (Hons) in Engineering and an MBA, both from the University of Cape Town, and has completed the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School.
