Session Description
The GSMA invites you to join senior government and mobile operators’ representatives from East Africa at the IMEI Roundtable to discuss best practices for deploying and operating nationwide solutions that prevent mobile device theft, fraud, and counterfeiting.
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) will share its practical experience operating a CEIR and collaborating with the GSMA TAC services. Together, we will examine how these solutions have strengthened market integrity, curbed counterfeit devices, and delivered measurable socio-economic benefits.
Speakers include East Africa regulators, mobile network operators, GSMA experts, and the UCC.
The roundtable will take place in the Poolside Meeting Room on the MWC Kigali show floor on Wednesday, 22 October, 14:00–16:30. Our purpose is to create a blueprint for regional cooperation that ensures secure, transparent, and affordable mobile connectivity for all.
Participants will gain insights into how effective CEIR deployment contributes to:
- Simplified tax collection and increased government revenue
- Improved device affordability and consumer protection
- A more transparent and trusted mobile market
- Enhanced regional cooperation and information sharing
Co-hosted with SC.Soft, an international software company with extensive experience in developing and running Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) solutions across Africa, this roundtable will highlight not only global best practices but also the practical lessons learned from successful implementations in the region.
