Session Description

Across Africa, digital health innovation is accelerating - but the real opportunity lies in translating these advances into integrated, scalable health systems that can deliver impact at national level.

This session will explore how countries are moving beyond pilots to embed digital solutions into core health system infrastructure, drawing on practical examples from across the continent and highlighting leading case studies of end-to-end digital health integration.

The discussion will be informed by insights from the GSMA Mobile for Development programme, which highlights the evolving role of mobile operators in delivering and enabling digital health solutions across both high-income and low- and middle-income markets. The research points to a shift from connectivity provision toward broader roles in platform enablement, service delivery, and ecosystem coordination, while also identifying key barriers around business models, partnerships, and regulatory environments.

Building on this, the session will examine what it takes to scale in practice - including how stakeholders are navigating these challenges, forming effective partnerships, and embedding digital health within national systems. Through a combination of real-world examples and discussion, it will explore how mobile-enabled solutions can support priorities such as strengthening supply chains, improving disease management, and expanding access to virtual care.
