Chantal Umutoni Kagame is a seasoned Fintech executive with over two decades of leadership experience across multinational telecom and fintech sectors. She has held pivotal roles in all three major telecom companies in Rwanda, consistently delivering outstanding results in executive leadership, sales and distribution, mobile financial services, strategic planning and execution, corporate affairs, credit management, team building, and talent development.
Her exemplary leadership and impactful contributions have earned her widespread recognition across the African business and financial sectors. In 2013, she was honored as the employee of the year among Millicom’s 13 operations globally. By 2017, she had been named one of Les 50 Femmes d’Affaires les Plus Influentes, further cementing her status as a leading figure in business. In 2024, she was listed among the Top 10 Women to Watch in Banking, Finance, and Investment in Africa by Angaza Forum, following her instrumental role in achieving a 300% growth in active users, including 99,000 female entrepreneurs. She also received the Female Fintech Leader of the Year award at the RWIBA Awards, in recognition of her dedication to innovation, thought leadership, and her commitment to increasing the participation of women in the fintech industry. That same year, she was honored with the prestigious African Women Achievers Award 2024 due to her impact in the Fintech sector. Most recently, in 2025, she was named one of Avance Media’s 100 African Female Finance Leaders, acknowledging her continued influence and impact in the finance sector.
As Chief Executive Officer of Mobile, Chantal Umutoni Kagame has led the company from its inception to becoming one of the top-performing Operating Company’s within the MTN Fintech Group, and in Rwanda. Under her leadership, the company was recognized with the Best Performing Fintech Award in 2024, a testament to its remarkable growth and operational excellence. She holds a bachelor's degree in commerce, with a specialization in Finance, from the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology."
