Future of Education & Work in Africa Summit - 2nd edition Thursday 18 June

The FEWA Summit – 2nd edition will convene ministries, university leaders, technology companies and global partners to examine how AI evolution is fast reshaping higher education and the future of work.

Co-located with MWC26 Kigali, the summit reimagines the role of university education in light of rapidly evolving AI disruption across industries. Through high-level dialogue, industry insights and cross-sector collaboration, the summit examines how institutions can adapt to AI-driven disruptions and align higher education systems with emerging workforce demands.

It serves as a platform for advancing policy, partnerships and innovation at the intersection of AI, connectivity, education and economic transformation across Africa.

GSMA Scams Summit Tuesday 16 June

Scams have never been more all-pervasive or damaging. Powered by AI, low-cost digital tools and increased global criminal collaboration, we are witnessing, in the words of INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza, "the industrialisation of fraud."

The Scams Summit will explore how trust can be rebuilt; focusing on AI-powered scam detection, real-time fraud APIs, regulatory developments, collaborative models, network-based solutions, authentication, biometrics, consumer education and information sharing while navigating data privacy challenges.

Use cases include:

- #TekanaOnline, a national cybersecurity and data protection initiative led by the Rwanda National Cyber Security Authority.

- How the GSMA Open Gateway initiative is helping address the challenge of domestic and cross-border information sharing by unlocking global network insights and enabling real-time, API-driven fraud prevention.

- Harnessing AI for fraud detection in fintech and security.

GSMA Technology Summit Wednesday 17 – Thursday 18 June

The GSMA Technology Summit brings together expert voices from the GSMA’s working groups, aligned with the topics most relevant to operators across the African continent. You can expect:

Knowledge sharing and training on priority subjects actively developed within the GSMA’s global working groups.
Deep dive sessions on roaming, security (including PQC), legacy technologies, eCalls, 5G implementation and more.
A platform where operators can raise challenges and escalate to appropriate GSMA working groups where needed.
An ‘Ask the GSMA’ service, giving operators direct access to subject-matter experts for ad hoc guidance.

GSMA 5G Summit - Wednesday 17 June

As of early 2026, 53 operators in 29 markets across Africa have launched commercial 5G, with 14 more countries set to follow. Yet, 5G represents only 3.8% of Africa’s mobile connections - showing that network deployment alone isn’t enough. To make a real economic impact, Africa must focus on using these networks effectively.

5G is beginning to deliver new services for businesses and citizens, from broadband for underserved homes to connected solutions in agriculture, health, and industry. The union of 5G and AI is enabling next-generation applications tailored to African needs. However, realising this potential requires not just technology, but suitable applications, strong partnerships and growing demand.

The 5G Summit at MWC26 Kigali provides a forum for leaders to discuss scaling 5G in Africa; to highlight its value, explore key applications and define the necessary policy, investment and partnership conditions.
